Contact Stillpoint

If you have questions, Stillpoint is here to listen and help you understand your next steps.

Reaching out after a death, or while planning ahead, can feel heavy. We will do our best to answer general questions in plain language and help you understand your options.

Stillpoint is a free matching service. We are not a funeral home, crematory, cemetery, funeral director, or insurance seller. We do not arrange funerals, perform cremations, sell merchandise, or sell insurance. If you want, we can help connect you with licensed funeral homes or cremation providers near you.

How to reach us

You can contact Stillpoint with questions about funeral and cremation options, planning ahead, and how our matching service works. If you are not sure what to ask, that is all right. A simple message is enough.

When you reach out, it may help to share:
- whether you need help now or are planning ahead
- your city and state
- whether you are considering burial, cremation, or a memorial service
- any language needs or other concerns

If you are ready, you can also learn more about how it works or ask to get matched.

What we can help with

We can offer general educational information about common funeral and cremation choices. We can explain terms, talk through the difference between services, and help you prepare questions for providers.

We can also help you understand common next steps, including:
- what documents or information a funeral home may ask for
- the difference between burial, cremation, and a memorial or celebration of life
- what it means to plan ahead
- how to ask for prices and compare providers carefully
- how to request a match with a licensed provider near you

If it would help, you can read more about at-need arrangements, cremation, or pre-planning.

What we cannot do

There are important limits to our role.

Stillpoint is a free matching service, not a funeral provider. That means we cannot:
- make arrangements on a provider's behalf
- schedule or carry out a funeral, burial, or cremation
- give legal, financial, tax, or insurance advice
- guarantee a provider's prices, availability, or specific services
- sell caskets, urns, cemetery property, pre-need contracts, or insurance

We also do not replace advice from a licensed funeral director, attorney, accountant, or insurance professional when those are needed.

If you are planning ahead, it may help to know that pre-need funeral contracts and final-expense insurance are different products. Ask how funds are protected, what is refundable, and who is licensed to discuss the product. Stillpoint does not sell either one.

Your rights when you speak with providers

When you contact a funeral home or cremation provider, you have important rights under the Federal Trade Commission's Funeral Rule.

You have the right to:
- ask for an itemized General Price List (GPL) from any funeral home
- buy only the goods and services you want
- use a casket or urn bought somewhere else
- decline embalming where it is not legally required

In most situations, embalming is rarely required by law. If a provider says it is required, ask why and ask for the rule in writing.

Prices you see online or hear by phone are often only typical ranges, not quotes. Ask each provider to confirm prices in writing and request its GPL. It is also wise to verify that the provider is licensed in your state.

You can learn more about these protections at Funeral Rule rights and read general information about costs.

If you need immediate help

If a death has just happened and you need help right away, a local licensed funeral home or cremation provider is usually the right next call. If the death occurred at a hospital, hospice, or nursing facility, staff may help explain the immediate process.

If there is an emergency or you are unsure who to call, contact local emergency services or the appropriate local authority first.

If you want, Stillpoint can help you get connected with licensed providers near you as quickly as we can. We cannot dispatch staff, remove someone from a place of death, or make official arrangements ourselves.

Before you choose a provider, try to ask:
1. Are you licensed in my state?
2. Can you send me your General Price List?
3. What are your basic service fees and transportation fees?
4. Is embalming required in this situation, and if so, why?
5. Can you confirm the estimate in writing?

If making calls feels too difficult, you may want to ask a trusted friend or family member to help you gather the GPLs and written estimates.

What to include in your message

You do not need to write a long explanation. A few details can help us respond more clearly.

You may include:
- your name and the best way to reach you
- your city, ZIP code, and state
- whether this is an immediate need or planning ahead
- the type of service you are considering, if known
- any budget concerns you want to compare carefully
- any language preference

If you are contacting us for someone else, that is fine. Please share only the information you are comfortable sharing. Keep in mind that Stillpoint provides general educational help and matching support, not legal, financial, tax, or insurance advice.
